At a very young age Jennifer knew she wanted to be a dance instructor and own her own studio. She began teaching at The Roanoke Academy of Ballet when she was 13 years old. Later, while attending Auburn University, Jennifer worked and became the Assistant Director of Auburn School of Dance and Performing Arts as well as Eufaula School of Dance. She became a certified dance instructor through Dance Masters of America in 2004. Jennifer graduated from Auburn University in 2005 with a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts. In 2006, Jennifer made her dreams a reality when she opened The Dance Center on Main (DCOM) in Wedowee, Alabama. The DCOM competition team has won many awards around the Southeast including Alabama State Champions and Top Studio Awards at multiple regional competitions. Many of her students also hold Miss Dance Titles. Jennifer has been a guest choreographer for Auburn University, Southern Union State Community College, First Baptist Church of Wedowee, and New Horizon Community Theater. Forever a dance student, Jennifer continues to travel and train in the art of teaching dance. She has attended Broadway Dance Center’s Dance Teacher Workshop and The Dance Teacher Summit in New York City. She also attends many dance teacher seminars and business classes at regional conventions. Jennifer is very active in Dance Masters Chapter 33 where she is on the executive board. With a B.S. from The University of Alabama and M.A. from Jacksonville State University, Sonja was the owner of The Roanoke Academy of Ballet for 14 years before becoming Director of Dance at Southern Union. For 43 years, she has enjoyed teaching students in this area and watching them follow their dreams in many careers, including dance. Former students have gone on to perform in television, movies, Broadway, Disney, Radio City Music Hall, and Carnival Cruise Lines, and in National and Regional Companies such as Complexions Contemporary Dance Company, Sanspointe, Arova, Alabama Ballet, and Huntsville Ballet. Many of her former students have danced in college and university dance programs and dance teams and now teach at universities and studios across the Southeast. Sonja is the proud mother of Lindsay Fincher, a former DCOM dancer who is now a dance major at the University of Alabama. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5ebde7985bb7796cee577316/1595707257178-7JNLIT7M2Z7DC6K142SK/IMG_9191.jpeg Faculty - Tina Glass- Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Acro Born and raised in Wedowee, Tina began her dance career at the age of 5 at Roanoke Academy of Ballet under the direction of Vicki Parker and began teaching at age 13. Upon the opening of The Dance Center on Main (DCOM) in 2006, Tina transferred and danced under the direction of Jennifer Boone Stone the remainder of her high school career. During her years at DCOM, Tina performed on the competition team and served as an instructor teaching various ages of students and styles of dance. Tina then moved on to Southern Union where she danced for two years under the direction of Sonja Fincher and continued working as an instructor at DCOM during this time. She also taught aerobics/fitness courses for Southern Union. After graduating Southern Union, Tina then went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Collaborative Elementary Special Education from The University of Alabama and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from The University of South Alabama. She now serves as a Special Education Teacher at Knight Enloe Elementary in Roanoke. Upon graduating college and moving back to Wedowee, Tina was presented with the opportunity to be the lead dance instructor at Center Stage Performing Arts Studio in Lineville and launched the studio’s first competition team in 2013. Tina’s love and passion for dance have been evident throughout her career. While she danced and instructed in various studios over the years, in 2017, her daughter began her first year of dance which also led Tina back “home” to DCOM! Tina resides in Roanoke with her husband Chris and their two daughters, Lakyn and Landry. She is so thankful to have the opportunity to share her love and passion for dance with the DCOM family! Tobias Keene, D.D.S. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries.
